He Couldn’t Reach the Window Like His Dog — So Dad Built Him a Way to See the World Too
Sometimes all it takes is a dad’s love and a little wood ❤️

Connor, a young boy full of curiosity, loved watching the world with Lucy — the family's calm and gentle golden retriever. Lucy often sat by the front window, alert and content, but Connor was still too small to see outside the way she could.
His dad, Dave Coughlin, noticed the way his son would stand beside Lucy, bouncing on his toes to catch a glimpse of the street.
“He was trying so hard to look outside with her,” Dave said.
So Dave grabbed some wood and got to work. Four days and around $100 later, a small custom-built fort stood by the window — complete with rails and a step, just the right size for Connor and Lucy to sit together and watch the neighborhood go by.
Now, when Connor hears a sound outside, he climbs up onto his lookout spot with Lucy by his side. The two of them sit there quietly, taking it all in — one with a wagging tail, the other with wide, happy eyes.
“They just love being there together,” Dave shared.
“Lucy’s so calm and patient with him. It’s their favorite spot now.”
Ever since Connor was born, Lucy has been his steady companion. And thanks to a simple idea from a thoughtful dad, the boy and his dog now have their perfect window to the world — shared side by side.
